Le Train de légende en détails
If there is one train that has marked history, it is the Orient Express. The myth began in Paris, at Gare de l’Est, in 1883. A timeless symbol of the art of travel, it constitutes one of the jewels of French railway heritage. Nicknamed “The king of trains, the train of kings,” the Orient Express combined innovation and elegance for its time. Its cabins were equipped with the most modern features of the era: central heating, hot water, and gas lighting. The division of Europe between East and West following the Second World War greatly weakened the Orient Express. The last Paris-Istanbul round trip took place on May 20, 1977, 94 years after its inauguration. Today, it remains a train composed of 7 carriages, owned by SNCF, some of which are classified as historical monuments. Entirely restored, these true traveling ambassadors of French Art Deco circulate on an exceptional basis for private events and journeys.
